To prevent the potential spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), prison visitation and the NLOL program was suspended as of Monday, March 16, 2020. The NLOL program will resume when conditions are deemed safe. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Pamlico's New Leash on Life program has graduated and found homes for 275 dogs. NLOL benefits the inmates as well as the dogs. PAWS rescues shelter dogs needing a second chance then Pamlico Correctional Institution pairs them with inmate trainers. The inmates learn patience, responsibility and teamwork, along with new marketable skills in dog training and veterinary assistance.
The dogs spend 8-10 weeks working on house and crate training, basic obedience, leash work and agility for confidence. These well-behaved graduates are fully vetted, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered and current on heartworm and flea prevention. These well-behaved companions graduate every 8-10 weeks ready to join new, forever families. Adopting families will be able to attend their dog's graduation.
