Girlfriend is a Bluetick Coonhound that was rescued by our Animal Control Officer as part of an animal cruelty case. Despite her awful beginnings, she is healthy, happy, and eager to please.
Girlfriend is approximately 4 years old and weighs about 85 lbs. She loves people and thrives on human attention. She is great with children, but given her size would probably do best with kids 6+ years of age. She gets along with other dogs but likes to play rough and tends to want to be dominant, therefore bigger dog companions work best. She even gets along with cats as long as they don't scamper and run away. If that happens, she thinks they want to play and will begin to chase them. She often forgets how big she really is.
She has a strong nose but does not hunt unless she is hunting your pocket for treats. She is very food motivated making her easy to train.
While she is not completely house trained (given her background this is not uncommon) she is getting there and just needs a little work. She is invisible fence trained and is not a wanderer. She loves to be home and loves to sing when "her people" come home.
Girlfriend is fully vetted and spayed. If you are interested in providing her with a loving home, please contact Berkley Hill 252-269-3362 (cell), 252-745-3203(work) or email Berkley at animalcontrol@pamlicocounty.org.
